Atlantic Woodland biome

This biome covers an area of 86,289 kilometers, represents 53% of the country and which consists primarily of forest among the coastline that runs from Rio Grande do Norte to Rio Grande do Sul Atlantic passing through the territories of Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro and Santa Catarina states, and regions of Alagoas, Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Sao Paulo and Sergipe states. The Atlantic Woodland features a variety of land formayions and a broad range of forest ecosystems with structure and floristic composition quite different, following the characteristics of the region where it occurs.

About 70% of the population lives within the Atlantic Forest, the origin and springs feed the cities, this is one of the factors that have contributed to the problems of water crisis and its lack, waste, bad use of water, deforestation and pollution.

The biodiversity of the Atlantic is similar to the Amazon. The most known animals of the Atlantic are: Mico-Leão-Dourado, jaguars, sloths and capybara.
