"Soon we will be engaged in battle and what we are facing is much more lethal than any lightning. We are at war with the Earth itself."
James Lovelock

The Global  Warming

The Earth's average temperature is around 15 º C. This is because gases occur naturally, such as carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor in our atmosphere to form a layer that traps the heat of the Sun.  The Earth would have colder environment, with temperature average of -17 º C IF we did not have these gases. This phenomenon is called the greenhouse effect. If we did not have it, life on Earth would not have such diversity.

The industrial revolution began and intensify the using of  carbon, it continued  over millions of years in the form of coal, oil and natural gas to generate power for industries and vehicles. The forests, became a large deposit  of carbon and began to be burned down faster. As a result, the environment had huge amounts of carbon dioxide, methane and other gases began to be released into the atmosphere, making the layer that retains the heat thicker. This intensifies the greenhouse effect. And our planet, now, already shows signs of fever. Therefore, global warming is the greatest environmental challenge of the 21st century.

Only in the last century, Earth's temperature increased by 0.7 º C. It seems unlikely, but that global warming is already changing the climate around the planet. The large masses of ice begin to melt, increasing sea level, threatening the oceanic islands and coastal areas. The Hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones are more intense and destructive. Minimum temperatures are higher, floods and droughts and stronger regions with water scarcity, as the semi-arid, desert views. Life on earth is threatened.

As global warming has been detected, some scientists still believed that the phenomenon could be caused by natural events such as the eruption of volcanoes, increase or decrease in solar activity and movement of continents. But with the advancement of science, has been proven that human activities are largely responsible for climate change that are already leaving victims around the world. Today there is no doubt. The man is the main responsible for this problem. The world needs urgent solutions to avoid major disasters.
