Native Seedling Production
Through the affiliated nurseries to the IBFLORESTAS, the native plants are produced to meet the demands of recovery forest projects, this work has facilities with production and the capacity is more than 3.3 million seedlings a year, it criates jobs and income for local community .
Development seedlings
The first step in the process is the collection and processing of seeds from the Atlantic forest. The plants of a various species are selected manually and they have a triage for the selection of seeds. The seeds are treated to break dormancy, such as the process of scraping the Guapuruvu seeds (Schizolobium parahyba), which are then soaked in water for one or two days. The seeds are planted in small tubes containing 53 cm3 of forest substrate, composed mainly of pine bark and encapsulated chemical fertilizer. The trays that give holders the vial during the stages of sowing, germination and seedling growth, the trays can hold 187 units. The trays are placed in flower beds and covered with a blanket layer of raffia and stones, with 50% in the half light.This way of planting ensures the control of the conditions for growth of seedling and includes a fully irrigation. In some cases, the seeds need better care to the germination process, seeds are planted in the nursery germination before being transplanted to the containers.
