IBFLORESTAS creates Green Payment Project

The Brazilian Institute of Forests has recently created another project to encourage reforestation, recognizing the needs of businesses to neutralize their carbon emissions and to encourage citizens to practice sustainable consumption.

The Green Payment Project is a payment service which will be provided by IBFLORESTAS to e-commerce companies. In this project, the Institute is responsible for the development of projects suitable to the needs of each one of these companies, the implementation of the projects, and the success of tree planting, while the e-commerce companies are responsible for the financial incentive.

Each company donates a percentage of their revenue to help finance this planting. This percentage is determined by the company and it may be related to the amount in tons of carbon dioxide emitted by the company's work. The planting field is chosen together by the company and by IBFLORESTAS.

Aside from the companies’ conservation of the environment through this project, it also encourages them to change their consumption patterns. In order to motivate citizens to practice sustainable consumption, companies can provide products and services that respect the environment as well as human dignity.

IBFLORESTAS believes that through the development of environmental projects like Green Payment, it is possible to encourage societal awareness of proper use of natural resources, without compromising the needs and objectives of future generations. This awareness does not require great effort; it merely calls people to pay closer attention to the world around them.
